Slack

Work with your Para in a Slack direct message, or mention the Shared Para in a channel.

Direct-message the Para app to work with your own Para, including project documents and finished files. In a channel or group chat, @mention Para to reach your organization’s Shared Para.

Set up Slack

  1. Install the Slack app

A Para organization owner or administrator opens Channels and installs Slack. Choose your Slack team and approve the requested app permissions. Your Slack administrator may need to approve the installation.

  2. Link your own Slack account

Each member returns to Channels and connects their Slack identity. Installing the app for the organization does not link everyone automatically.

  3. Start a direct message

Open the Para app in Slack and send it a DM. Try: “Tell me which projects I can work with.” Check that a reply arrives before delegating a larger assignment.

Send and receive files

Incoming documents land on your Desk. Without the case.dev plugin, Para keeps documents in Desk and Personal. With it, Para files documents in the project they concern, creates a clearly new project, and asks when several projects are plausible. ZIPs are stored intact. Storing a format does not guarantee that its contents can be analyzed.

For incoming messages, send at most 10 files: up to 20 MB in total by email, or 1 GB in Slack and Teams. For larger files, upload through Projects and name the files in your request. Creating named projects requires the case.dev plugin on your Para. These are Para intake limits; your provider may impose additional restrictions.

Attach a PDF, Word document, spreadsheet, ZIP, or another file to your DM. You can send several files or a file-only message. Ask for the result in the format you need; supported finished files arrive as Slack uploads. Files that cannot be attached are identified with an download link that requires Para sign-in. A filename in the reply is not by itself a delivered attachment.

Current limitations

  • Direct messages from a linked user reach that person's Para. In a channel or group chat, an @mention reaches your organization's Shared Para, and everyone in the organization can see the exchange. Invite the app to the channel first; mentions from unlinked people or Slack Connect guests do not start work.
  • The Slack installation needs file read and write permissions. Older installations may support messages but not file reception.
  • File analysis depends on the contents and supported processing tools; you can store some file formats that Para cannot analyze.

If something does not work

  • No reply: confirm both the organization installation and your personal Slack connection, then message the app directly.
  • “Enable file sharing” or “Enable Para in channels”: an organization administrator uses that action in Channels to reinstall the app with the required permissions.
  • “Public-channel search needs an updated Slack permission”: an administrator chooses Reinstall in Channels so the Shared Para can search public channels.
  • File could not be downloaded: confirm the file is accessible, check the size limit, and attach it again if its source link has expired.
  • Missing result: check the run in Para. If delivery is uncertain, inspect Slack before asking for a resend to avoid duplicate files.
